Thyroidectomy

A partial or total thyroidectomy is an operation that involves the surgical removal of all or part of the thyroid gland. The thyroid gland is an endocrine organ located in the neck that helps control the body's metabolism. Indications for thyroidectomy include: thyroid cancer, hyperthyroidism and enlarged thyroid goiter causing obstructive symptoms (difficulties in swallowing or breathing)

Parathyroidectomy

Parathyroids are small glands located in the neck that control calcium metabolism. A Parathyroidectomy is the surgical removal of one or more parathyroid glands. This procedure is performed for active tumors of the gland that produce an excess of parathyroid hormone. Common signs and symptoms of hyperparathyroidism include: hypercalcemia, brittle bones leading to early long bone fractures, kidney stones, fatigue and abdominal cramping.

Abdominal Wall Hernia Repair with Component Separation

Sometimes abdominal wall hernias are so extensive and complex that management cannot be performed with either traditional open or robotic hernia repair techniques. These types of hernias are so large that the entire abdomen has lost its integrity or its normal domain and therefore has insufficient muscular wall that cannot be pulled together during a conventional hernia repair. The component separation technique involves separating and advancing certain layers of the abdominal wall on either side of the patient so that the right and left sided muscles can be brought closer to the midline for sufficient closure without tension. This procedure often requires the placement of mesh material, either synthetic or biologic, in order to achieve long term strength. This technique restores the structural and functional integrity of the abdominal wall and aesthetic appearance. Component separation surgery is lengthy and complex and should be performed by a surgeon who has experience with this type of repair.
